graduation in the “harry potter hall”

Finally, the day of graduation arrives, 3 mths after I started work. It all feels kind of strange really. there wasn’t a tinge of ecstasy, like how you see graduates throwing their caps into the air, with jubilant smiles and stupid photos of them picking up their hats after that cos no one can ever catch it on its way down. But it was still a nice feeling, having the butterflies in your stomach before walking up that stage, tking that handshake from the Chancellor, and then wobbling down the stage again with the certificate.

The pretty hall and quadrangle was a huge incentive, with the painted glass and huge pipe organ behind. Somebody once told me that the Great Hall that we see in Harry potter movies were modeled after our Great Hall. But i told i read somewhere that it was modeled after christchurch college in oxford. But it was close enough. heh. We even had live organ music during the ceremony. The feeling was quite surreal really. Too bad there weren’t floating candles in the ceiling or white owls flying around =]

I’m really glad that I went back for the ceremony, becos sydney was the place where I spent a year studying in, a place where new friendships were forged, a place which also made me understand that life isn’t all that its made out to be too. =]

Our Dept decided to go as charactors from Journey to the West. And of course we still have other cool charactors like e.g. my personal favourite Edward Scissorhands, Ali Baba, Princess Fiona, Viking, Jason, Captain Jack Sparrow..

And yea, we bagged quite a number of prizes that night. Though it came at a price of some serious embarrassment.
